When your system or connected devices are triggered, the Vivint Smart Hub will sound its built-in internal siren which is a great deterrent to home invaders. The Vivint Smart Hub includes a Z-wave protocol which means you can expand to become a smart home automation hub. It also includes a 2-way audio feature that allows you to directly communicate with Vivint’s professional monitoring station during emergencies allowing for fast response times.

Link Interactive actually doesn’t offer just one security control. Link Interactive basically wanted to make sure there was a control panel that fit any budget. Today however, we will only be focusing on their most elite security control panel which is the Link Interactive IQ 2 Panel. The IQ 2 is a recent release, and widely regarded as the most robust and complete alarm panel on the market. The IQ2 Panel is a 7-inch full colored touchscreen control panel that has a front facing 5 MP camera. It’s got a super slim design and its front facing camera will snap snapshots of when your system is being armed and disarmed. The touchscreen itself lets you fully control your Link Interactive security system and any connected devices right from the panel. The Link Interactive IQ 2 also displays your area’s current time and temperature. The IQ 2 Panel transmits your data two ways: through double encrypted cellular data, and through your home’s WIFI. Since the IQ 2 panel is cellular panel, you do not need a landline or internet connection for it work. It is powered by an AC power source and it includes a backup battery. A couple of standout features of the IQ 2 is that it has a glass break sensor and motion sensor built in. Its glass break sensor will listen for the sound of break glass around it, and it will trigger your system if this sound is heard. Its motion sensor will detect motion around it, and it will also trigger your system if motion is detected around it. The Link Interactive IQ 2 Panel has Bluetooth arming and disarming along with a Z-Wave protocol. If your system or devices are triggered you Link Interactive IQ 2 Control panel will sound its internal siren.

Who wins?

There are a lot of things we really like about Vivint’s Smart Hub control panel and Link Interactive’s IQ 2 control panel. We really like the fact that both control panels are full colored touchscreen control panels that are wireless and cellular. We also really like that both control panels can be used as home automation hubs as well. However, the Link Interactive IQ 2 Panel has a lot of features that the Vivint Smart Hub doesn’t have. Also, Link Interactive has a few control panels for you to choose from giving you options. For these reasons we are making Link Interactive the winner of this category.

Vivint Smart Home Equipment

Vivint has every security sensor and environmental sensor you could need to give your home total protection. They offer wireless and battery-operated entryway and environmental safety sensors. They offer door/window, tilt, glass break, and motion sensors to keep the entryways of your home secure. Their door/window sensor will keep an eye on your doors and windows, their motion sensors will detect motion in large rooms, and their glass break sensor will listen for the sound of break glass in an area they are placed. Vivint’s tilt sensor will let you know anytime your garage doors of your home have been opened or shut. To quickly arm and disarm your system, Vivint offers battery-operated push-button key chain remote with a built-in panic button. To keep your home safe from environmental dangers Vivint offers Smoke, CO, and flood sensors. Their smoke sensors will look for dangerous rises in heat and smoke and make an audible alert while triggering your system if these rises are detected. Their CO sensor will keep an eye on dangerous rises in CO2 gases while their flood sensors will alert to any floods or leaks in your home. All equipment offered by Vivint is professionally installed so you don’t have to worry about setting up the equipment yourself.

Home Automation

You can do more with your Vivint Smart Hub than just use it as security system. Due to the Vivint Smart Hub having a Z-Wave protocol you can use home automation equipment with it, and Vivint allows you to purchase some of this equipment directly through them. You can purchase automated smart locks that allow you the ability to create multiple user codes, and you can remotely lock and unlocks these locks on the go. To control your garage doors remotely, Vivint offers a garage door controller. To cut downs on your home’s energy consumption per month you can add a smart thermostat or smart bulbs to your Vivint security system. Vivint offers smart thermostats that can be controlled remotely. They can also learn the temperature of your home and adjust your home’s heating cooling system to the most money saving setting. Their smart bulbs can have custom timers set when they come on and go off as well as being remotely controlled while on the go.

Video Monitoring/Cameras

To provide your home with some video surveillance protection, Vivint offers indoor, outdoor, and video surveillance cameras. Their cameras are wireless and work by connecting to your home’s WIFI network. Vivint’s cameras can capture crystal clear video and include motion sensors, night vision, and 2-way audio.

The amount of basic equipment that Link Interactive offers for their security system is second to none. Link offers wireless and battery-operated door/window, motion, glass break, image, outside, and tilt sensors. Link Interactive’s door/window sensor will let you know anytime your doors or windows have been opened or shut. Link’s motion sensors will detect motion in large rooms in your home, and they are pet friendly. Glass break sensor will listen for the sound of breaking glass around the area they are placed. The image sensor will take snap shots whenever motion is detected in an area it is placed. Outside sensors are prefect for gates, and work like your stand door/window sensor in where you will be alerted to the opening and closing of gate or outside door in which these sensors are placed. If your home has garage doors, Link Interactive’s tilt sensor will alert you when your garage doors have been opened or shut. Link Interactive also offers full-colored touchscreen keypads that are wireless and come with a rechargeable battery. You can control your system including arming and disarming it through the secondary keypad. For quick way to arm and disarm your system, Link Interactive offers key fob remotes that have a push-button design. To keep your home safe from the environments, Link Interactive offers a smoke/heat/freeze sensor and a CO sensor. These sensors are wireless and battery-operated. Smoke/heat/freeze sensor will look for rises and drops in temperature will monitoring for smoke, and it will make an audible alert if these are detected. Link Interactive’s CO sensor will monitor for dangerous rises in CO gas, and it will make an audible alert if this rise is detected. All equipment offered by Link is DIY (do it yourself) which means you will need to setup all the equipment yourself, but Link Interactive will walk you through every step of the way making for a fast and easy installation.

Home Automation

Link Interactive offers a great variety of home automation and video surveillance cameras that you can use with their system. Link offers several different models of smart locks for you to choose from. Link’s smart locks have push-button keypads and can be remotely controlled on the go. Link Interactive offers a garage door controller that allows you to remotely control your home’s garage doors while on the go. You will also receive push-notifications anytime your home’s garage doors have been opened or shut. Link Interactive offers smart bulbs and modules that can be used to control the lights in your home. Custom times can be set with either their smart bulbs and modules along with remote control of their modules and bulbs through their app. To make your home greener, Link Interactive offers smart thermostats. The smart thermostats work for most HVAC heating and cooling systems, and will let you set custom timers as well as make sure your home’s temperature is always perfect and always at the most energy efficient setting.

Monitoring/Cameras

Link Interactive also has a huge selection of video cameras for you to choose from. Link Interactive offers a couple of different models of wireless indoor, outdoor, and video doorbell cameras. All of the cameras work by connecting wirelessly to your home’s WIFI network. All video cameras capture video in HD resolution. They also include 2-way audio, motion sensors, and night vision.

Who wins?

Vivint and Link Interactive have all the basic equipment you could need to give your home complete security coverage. We really like Vivint’s flood sensor due to its ability to prevent costly flood damage to your home. We really love Link Interactive’s image sensor due to it giving you some extra and easy to use video surveillance equipment for your home. Link Interactive does have a larger selection of basic equipment than Vivint, and for this reason we are making Link Interactive the winner for this category.

Vivint and Link Interactive have some really outstanding home automaton and video surveillance equipment. Both companies offer smart thermostats and smart locks. They also both offer wireless indoor, outdoor, and video surveillance cams. However, Link Interactive has a larger selection of add-on equipment and video surveillance cameras that you can buy directly through them than Vivint. For this reason, we are choosing Link as the winner for this category.

Vivint and Link Interactive offer professional, self, and video monitoring services for all systems and devices. Self-monitoring services work through the app and are free to download from both companies. Both apps will allow you remotely control your system and any connected devices. You will be able to remotely disarm/arm your system, customize your system’s features, add/remove devices, stream live and recorded video, and receive push notifications for events right through their apps. Link Interactive’s app is powered by Alarm.com which means you will have more features you can use like Geo Fencing. Link’s professional monitoring services work the same in which you have a 24/7 professional monitoring service watching over your home for security and life safety threats. Both Vivint and Link Interactive have month-to-month monitoring fees and contracts. Link Interactive is very transparent about their pricing, and have flexible contracts lengths with different month to plans. However, Vivint doesn’t really give you much transparency, and you have to reach out to them to get any real pricing info.
