The Vivint Smart Hub transmits all your data via an installed cellular chip that supports LTE. If you do happen to have an internet connection at your home the Vivint Smart Hub will connect to it as well as a backup that WIFI. It has is powered by an AC power source, and comes with a 24-hour backup battery. It your system or any connected devices are triggered, the Vivint Smart Hub will sound its blaring internal siren. During an emergency you will be able to directly communicate with your emergency services through the Vivint Smart Hub’s 2-way audio feature. The Vivint Smart Hub includes a Z-Wave protocol that allows it to also be used a home automation hub.

Guardian Protection Control Panel

Guardian Protection offers their Guardian IQ2 Panel which is touchscreen control panel that has a thin design making it very easy to place. This thin touchscreen control panel sports a full colored 7-inch display. You can completely control your Guardian Protection security system right from the touchscreen control panel. It is a wireless and cellular system which means it works by transmitting your security data through a cellular chip. The Guardian IQ2 Panel has PowerG encryption which adds an extra layer of security when it is transmitting your data. It is powered by an AC power source, but it does include a backup battery just in case your power goes out. The Guardian IQ2 Panel includes a 5 mega-pixel front facing camera that can take snap shots of when your system is being armed and disarmed. The Guardian IQ 2 panel includes Bluetooth disarming which means it will recognize when you are coming and leaving your home, and trigger your system accordingly. The Guardian IQ2 panel really stands out due to its built-in glass break sensor that will trigger your Guardian Protection security system when the sound of break glass is detected. Anytime your Guardian Protection system or devices are trigger the Guardian IQ2 Panel will sound its internal 110-decibel siren. The Guardian IQ2 Panel also includes a Z-wave protocol that will allow you to expand it so that you can use home automation devices with it.

Who wins?

There are a few similarities between the Vivint Smart Hub and the Guardian IQ2 control panels. They are both wireless, have full-colored touchscreens, and come with a backup battery. We do really like that Vivint has a 2-way audio feature that allows you to directly communicate with emergency services. The Guardian IQ2 Panel has some features we haven’t seen in other touchscreen control panels like a built-in front facing camera. Due the Guardian IQ2 control panel having more advance features that are really useful than that of the Vivint Smart Hub, we are making them the winner for this category.

Vivint Smart Home Equipment

To protect the inside your home from security and environmental threats, Vivint offers a variety of wireless and battery-operated intrusion and environmental safety sensors. They offer door/window sensors that will alert you to when they have been open. They have motion sensors that can detect motion in large rooms, and they are pet-immune for smaller pets. They offer glass break sensors that will trigger you Vivint security system if the sound of breaking glass is heard. To know when you garage doors have been opened or shut, you can add a Vivint tilt sensor to them. Vivint also offers a push-button keychain remote that allows you to arm and disarm your system with a push of a button. To keep your home safe from environmental dangers, Vivint offers smoke, CO, and flood sensors. Their smoke sensor has an audible alert and will detect any dangerous rises in smoke. Their CO detector will monitor for rises in CO, and an audible alert will be sounded if the rise is detected. Vivint’s flood sensor will look for leaks or rises in water around the sensor, and it will trigger you Vivint security system if this rise is detected. Home Automation

Vivint wanted to make sure their Vivint Smart Hub could function with other branded home automaton devices and security equipment, and they wanted to make sure you could shop for this other branded equipment right from their own website. Vivint has a lot of home automation equipment that you can use with their system, and today we will only be going over a few of these items. You can contact Vivint directly for a complete list of their home automation products. To control your locks of your home with your Vivint security system, you can purchase smart locks from Vivint. Their smart locks allow you remotely control them, and you can create custom user codes so you don’t have to worry about everyone having the same code for your home. If you want to be able remotely control your garage doors you can add a garage door controller that Vivint offers. The garage door controller will also let you know when your garage doors have been opened and shut. A great way to make your home greener would be to add a smart thermostat and some smart bulbs to your Vivint security system. The smart thermostats and bulbs offered by Vivint can have custom timers for when they turn on and turn off. Their smart thermostats can learn the temperature of your home, and automatically adjust your home’s temperature to make sure you are saving the most on your home’s energy consumption.

Video Monitoring/Cameras

Vivint also offers wireless cams that can work for the outside and inside or your home. Vivint offers indoor, outdoor, and video doorbell cameras that can capture video in stunning HD quality. Their cameras work by connecting to your home’s WIFI wireless, and they include 2-way audio, motion sensors, and night vision.

Guardian Protection Equipment

Guardian Protection offers all of the basic equipment you could ever need to keep your home totally protected. They offered wireless and battery-operated sensors that have a long battery life. To keep the inside of your home safe Guardian Protection offers door/window, motion, and glass break sensors. All of these sensors are tamper-proof so you don’t have to worry about someone disabling them. They also offer a variety of external sirens including one that has a strobe light so you will be sure to hear when your Guardian Protection’s security system has been triggered. To quickly arm and disarm your system, Guardian protection offers a battery-operated key fob that has a built-in panic button. To keep your home safe from environmental dangers Guardian Protection offers smoke/heat and CO sensors. These sensors have audible alerts that will be triggered if dangerous rises in environmental factors such as heat, smoke, and CO gas are detected. Guardian Protection will send out one of their certified security technicians so you don’t have to worry about setting up the equipment yourself.

Home Automation

Guardian Protection’s Guardian IQ Panel is more than just a security hub, due to its Z-wave protocol you can use a variety of other branded smart home devices with it. You can purchase some of the smart home automation equipment directly through Guardian Protection. Guardian Protection offers Kwikset smart locks that have an illuminated push-button keypad that you can create custom user codes. You will also be able to control on these locks while go including remotely locking and unlocking. If your home has garage doors you can remotely open and close them using the Linear Garage Door controller that is offered by Guardian Protection. You will also receive push notification anytime your garage doors have been opened or shut. To make your home greener, Guardian Protection offers Alarm.com smart thermostats. These thermostats work for the majority of HVAC heating and cooling systems. You will be able to remotely control your home’s temperature on the go through your Alarm.com Smart Thermostat. Monitoring/Cameras

To provide your home with some video surveillance protection, Guardian Protection offers an indoor, outdoor, and a video doorbell camera. Their cameras are wireless and work by connecting to your home’s WIFI. Guardian Protection’s video cams can capture high quality video clips, have night vision technology, and 2-way audio. Who wins?

Vivint and Guardian Protection have a really nice selection of basic equipment for you to choose from. We really like that Vivint offers a flood sensor which can be really valuable to home owners due to the amount of damage a flood can cause. We really love that Guardian Protection thought of everything you could need to protect your home, and we really like their strobe external siren. Because Guardian Protection has a bit larger selection of basic equipment than that of Vivint, we are giving them the win for this category.

Vivint and Guardian Protection offer a nice selection of add-on equipment for you to choose from so that you can really expand your system. We really like the fact that Vivint allows to purchase a lot of other branded home automation equipment directly through them. We really love the fact that Guardian Protection uses Alarm.com thermostats due to all the features it includes. This was a harder category for us to call, but are going to give the win to Guardian Protection due to them offering Alarm.com thermostats.

Vivint Smart Home vs Guardian Protection App

To keep a close eye on your security system and connected devices, Vivint and Guardian Protection offer self, professional, and video-monitoring services. Their self-monitoring services are done through their apps which are free to download and work for Apple and Android Devices. Their apps will allow you remotely control of your system and connected devices. You will be able to remotely arm/disarm your system, add/check connected devices, control home automation devices, and stream live and recorded video. You will also receive push notifications sent to you directly through their apps for any events triggered by your system or connected devices. Guardian Protection’s app is powered by Alarm.com which means you will have some really useful features that other apps don’t offer, like Geo-fencing technology. Their professional monitoring services work the same in where you have a professional monitoring station watching over your home for security and environmental threats 24/7. Their month-to-monitoring monitoring fees are pretty evenly matched, and both Vivint and Guardian Protection fall in the average range with comes to month-to-month monitoring fees from other companies.

We really like that variety of equipment Vivint has, and their Smart Hub is easy to use and is built to last. We really love all the advanced features that the Guardian IQ2 panel has that other security panels don’t have like a built-in glass break sensor. Guardian Protection also uses Alarm.com services and products which means you be able to really personalize your security system. Due to Guardian Protection having the nicer control panel and more in-depth monitoring services, we are choosing them as our overall winner.
